Serving the Community
In 1968 a priest, a rabbi, and a minister joined forces for the greater good, forming an organzation that would impact the southern suburban neighborhoods of Pittsburgh by the hundreds of thousands. Realizing the rising levels of poverty, the South Hills Interfaith Movement (SHIM) was born.
Gilfillan Farm and the Historical Society of Upper St. Clair formed a parternship with SHIM to help with their efforts of feeding people in need. A portion of the Alexander Gilfillan garden is dedicated to growing produce for the SHIM food pantry. Lynn Kister and Sue Wyble, volunteers from Upper St. Clair High School, and Westminster Presbyterian Church are working together to support this effort by tending to the garden. We happily donate a variety of produce including tomatoes, squashes, lettuces, peppers, beans, melons, potatoes, and garlic. In 2021, the volunteers grew and donated 3,028 pounds of produce.
