Gilfillan Farm
Daffodil Field
Loving Memories
The daffodils are plentiful at the Gilfillan Farm. The volunteers tend to the daffodils every year in an effort to preserve Margaret's living memory of her brother John.
A Unique Way to Garden
The daffodil field at Gilfillan Farm is a special feature of the property. In the spring, the field is spattered with white and yellow flowers, a sign that the harsh winter weather is over.
At first glance, one would wonder why the flowers were not planted in a neat and orderly manner. But as visitors learn the story about why the daffodil field was planted the way that it was, it's hard to imagine the daffodils being planted any other way.
The story goes that Margaret Gilfillan bought her brother John a dozen daffodils for his birthday every year. It is unknown exactly when Margaret started this tradition. John would walk out into the field carrying his 12 daffodil bulbs and he would throw them into the air. He would plant the bulbs wherever they landed.
